A self-described witch who claims to have been paid to place a curse on conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in the days leading up to his fatal shooting has spoken publicly, saying her magic is “effective” — though she stopped short of taking credit for his death.
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed on September 10 during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, sparking widespread condemnation of political violence and an ongoing manhunt for the gunman.
The revelation comes after Jezebel published an article day before Kirk’s death titled “We Paid Some Etsy Witches to Curse Charlie Kirk.” The piece detailed the purchase of several spells from witches on Etsy, including hexes labeled “MAKE EVERYONE HATE HIM” and “POWERFUL HEX SPELL.” One of the witches featured, known as Priestess Lilin, sent the publication a video of Kirk’s photo being burned.
Speaking to Metro, Priestess Lilin, co-owner of the Etsy shop StrixSisters, said she practices both white and black magic and does not rejoice in death, but believes her spells work when amplified by collective energy. Her shop has received dozens of five-star reviews for its ritual services.
Following Kirk’s killing, Jezebel updated the article with an editor’s note condemning the violence and clarifying that the piece was satirical. Josh Jackson, president of Jezebel’s parent company Paste Media Group, described the article as “a tongue-in-cheek response to Kirk’s inflammatory rhetoric,” and emphasized that neither the publication nor its writers endorse harm.
Kirk, a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump, was a vocal figure in conservative politics and frequently criticized progressive causes. His killing remains under investigation as authorities continue to search for the shooter.
