Viewers Shocked As Prince Harry And Meghan Pop Up In New Netflix Doc

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make an unexpected appearance in Netflix’s new documentary Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story, which explores the much-debated relationship between Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise and her American fiancé, shaman Durek Verrett, ahead of their upcoming wedding.

In the film, Durek opens up about the intense scrutiny he has endured from both the press and the public, drawing parallels to the experiences of Harry and Meghan. Like the Sussexes, he described facing racism, online abuse, and relentless criticism since entering royal life.

“Honestly, stepping into Norway, I felt judged on every level,” Durek revealed, sharing that he regularly receives hundreds of hostile messages and even death threats. “Me being the first Black man in the European royal family is very hard for people.”

He also recalled how comments from Princess Märtha Louise’s parents, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, about a so-called “culture clash” were distorted by the media and even led to racial slurs in coverage.

The documentary highlights how Meghan’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey—where she addressed racism, mental health struggles, and the pressures of royal life—sparked reflection within the Norwegian royal household.

Durek shared that soon after, King Harald reached out to ask if he felt similarly mistreated. This prompted the palace to issue a statement denouncing racism, a move Prince Harry later praised in a 2023 interview with ABC News.

A clip of Harry commending King Harald was shown in the film: “Within the last couple of months, the King of Norway led by example. It is huge and I congratulate them for that enormously.”
