The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano has arrested a 28-year-old man, Salisu Abdu Adam, for allegedly defrauding a married woman of N1.8 million by using charms to manipulate her trust.

NSCDC spokesperson Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the arrest and revealed that Adam is currently in custody as investigations near completion.

Adam, a resident of Kawo in Nassarawa Local Government Area but originally from Garko Local Government Area, reportedly convinced the victim by promising better education opportunities and a profitable business venture. Authorities say he allegedly employed traditional charms, a tactic sometimes used by fraudsters in the region to intimidate or psychologically influence victims.

Charm-based fraud remains a challenge in parts of Nigeria, where belief in spiritual practices can be exploited by criminals to carry out scams and extort money.

Abdullahi stated that investigations have been concluded and that Adam will soon be arraigned in court to face charges.

The NSCDC continues to urge the public to be cautious of schemes involving supernatural claims and to report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
