"I Love Her To The Marrow" — Pete Edochie Speaks Warmly About May Edochie, Estranged Wife Of Son Yul
Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has spoken candidly about his affection for May Edochie, the estranged wife of his son, Yul Edochie, describing her as more than just a daughter-in-law — but a woman he loves “to the marrow.”
In a heartfelt interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the 77-year-old film icon reflected on his close relationship with May, her intelligence, and the pivotal role she played in building the Edochie household before the much-publicized breakdown of her marriage to Yul.
“Mary is not just a daughter-in-law. I don’t want to say I love her more than the other wives of my sons, but the love I have for Mary is so strong,” Pete said.
He went on to recall his connection with May’s family and the warm reception he received during her traditional marriage rites, noting that the bond began long before her entry into the family.
“Her father and I were very close. The way her people welcomed me—I’ll never forget that.”
Pete described May as an exceptionally intelligent woman, revealing that she is a “computer wizard” and crediting much of the success of her former home with Yul to her quiet strength and intellect.
“Mary is a very, very brilliant girl. Many may not know this, but she’s a computer wizard. And to a very large extent, the success of that home is to Mary’s credit.”
Despite the separation between May and Yul — largely attributed to his controversial decision to marry a second wife — Pete made it clear he continues to hold May in the highest regard and has never been part of any effort to undermine her.
“Things like this happen, and it’s so difficult to convince her that you are not part of it. Mary is a wonderful person.”
He also praised a touching birthday message she shared with him during his recent 76th birthday, calling it “so endearing.”
Pete expressed concern over those advising May, suggesting that some may be intentionally steering her away from reconciliation without truly having her best interests at heart.
“A lot of people have been advising her wrongly… Most of those women advising her don’t have good intentions.”
Public Reaction
Pete Edochie’s candid remarks have sparked emotional responses across social media, with many Nigerians commending him for acknowledging May’s intelligence, loyalty, and the foundational role she played in the Edochie family.
Others praised him for distinguishing himself from the controversies surrounding his son’s personal life and for showing continued support to May during her difficult season.
