The Duke Of Sussex Shares Exciting Update

Fresh off the heels of the royal family’s recent celebrations, Prince Harry has announced major news through his passion project, the Invictus Games.

The Invictus Games Foundation has officially unveiled the six shortlisted cities vying to host the 2029 tournament, marking the ninth edition of the international sporting event for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.

Among the contenders is a location close to home for the Duke of Sussex: San Diego, California, just a few hours’ drive from Montecito, where Harry and Meghan Markle have lived since 2020.

The full list of potential host cities includes:

  • Aalborg, Denmark
  • Veneto Region, Italy
  • Abuja, Nigeria
  • Daejeon, Republic of Korea
  • Kyiv, Ukraine
  • San Diego, USA

This exciting update comes as preparations ramp up for the 2027 Games in Birmingham, UK, which were previously confirmed.

A Global Movement Grows

Rob Owen OBE, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the growing reach of the event.

“We are thrilled to have such interest, demonstrating a clear recognition of the powerful impact of hosting an Invictus Games—not only on the competitors themselves, but on those supporting, watching, and cheering on from the stands.”

He also highlighted how the global appeal of the Games reflects the expanding influence of the Invictus Movement, now seen as a beacon of recovery, resilience, and international solidarity.

“These expressions of interest are a testament to the growing global impact of being part of the Invictus Movement. We look forward to working with each of these locations over the coming year to develop detailed proposals—with the recovery of wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans at their heart.”

Founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games have evolved into a global celebration of strength, perseverance, and community. The 2023 Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, saw record participation and viewership, solidifying the event’s place on the international stage.

As the competition intensifies to host the 2029 Games, Harry’s vision continues to thrive—bringing nations together through the healing power of sport.
