A 38-year-old Nigerian man, Okenyehike Kelvin Obianke, has pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous harm to a police corporal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The incident, which occurred on April 25, 2025, involved Obianke allegedly biting off part of Corporal Danielrul Azraq Ahmad Khair’s left ear.

The alleged attack took place at 10:10 AM in front of a clinic in Metro Prima, Kepong, as the officer, 36, was responding to a call. Obianke, a private college student, denied the accusation, claiming the incident was unintentional.

Obianke was charged under Section 325 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a fine. The magistrate court denied him bail and set a date of June 10 for the appointment of a lawyer and submission of relevant documents.

In addition to the assault charge, Obianke also faces two separate charges. He is accused of not having valid travel documents to enter Malaysia and of consuming a controlled substance, benzo (nimetazepam). These charges are punishable by fines, imprisonment, or both, under Malaysian law.

Obianke entered his pleas in a separate court session before Magistrate Atiqah Mohamed. He will return to court for a mention on July 23.

The incident occurred when Obianke, who had reportedly been acting erratically, was behaving aggressively at the clinic, prompting staff to call the police. When officers arrived, the altercation ensued, resulting in the corporal losing part of his left ear.

According to police officials, the officer’s ear could not yet be reattached due to concerns over infection, and doctors at Kuala Lumpur Hospital were scheduled to reassess his condition for potential surgery.
