Kanye West, known as Ye, has finally released his long-anticipated album Donda 2, but the release has been mired in controversy after producers accused him of not paying for their contributions.
On Wednesday, Ye addressed the dispute on social media, revealing that DeAndre “Free” Maiden, manager of producers Jahmal “Boogz Da Beast” Gwin and Brian “AllDay” Miller, is demanding the album be removed due to nonpayment for eight tracks.
Boogz and AllDay, who have worked with Ye on several of his major projects, are credited on Donda 2. However, Ye responded to their claims with indifference, suggesting that he played a crucial role in their development as producers and was the one who initially taught them how to create beats.
Donda 2, which was initially teased over three years ago, had its much-anticipated debut at a 2022 listening event at LoanDepot Park in Miami, featuring celebrity guests and extravagant production.
While the album was first slated for an exclusive release through Ye’s Stem Player device, it faced numerous delays and internal conflicts. Now that it’s finally available on streaming platforms, its continued availability is in question as the producers push for a takedown over unpaid work.
This is not the first payment dispute related to Donda 2. Producer ATL Jacob has also previously claimed that he was never compensated for his contributions to the album. Despite Ye’s billionaire status, ongoing financial disagreements with contributors continue to overshadow the release of the highly awaited album.
