Latonya Pottain, who gained fame on season 11 of My 600-lb Life in 2023, has died at the age of 40.
When she appeared on the reality show at age 37, Latonya weighed 632 pounds and was largely bedridden, unable to walk down the aisle to marry her fiancé, Daune.
Her episode highlighted her ongoing struggle to give up unhealthy foods, with her weight continuing to rise during regular check-ins with Dr. Nowzaradan. Eventually, she was diagnosed with a serious heart condition and was told she could no longer receive help on the show after failing to lose the required weight.
Latonya passed away on Saturday, May 17, at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, TMZ reported. The preliminary autopsy by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed congestive heart failure as the cause of death.
Her brother shared that family members had visited her at home that morning, where she was struggling to breathe and appeared “extremely uncomfortable.” Later, a nurse informed the family that Latonya had called an ambulance due to cardiac arrest, which led to her passing.

Following news of her death, heartfelt tributes poured in on her social media pages, with fans expressing their sorrow and remembering how they had been “rooting for her” to improve her health.
During her time on My 600-lb Life, Latonya had notable clashes with Dr. Now over the hospital’s healthy food options, which she resisted. She also openly discussed her mental health challenges that contributed to her overeating.
“When I eat, it takes the stress away. That’s what I do to help me cope with things,” she admitted on the show. “I know the food is unhealthy and not good for me. But with the habit that I have for long, it’s hard to change it. I’m disappointed in myself for getting to this place.”
Just a year ago, Latonya reached out to fans on Facebook, asking for prayers as her heart condition worsened.
“Y’all pray for me my heart not working right and there is nothing more the doctors can do here in Louisiana please keep me lifted,” she wrote.
Reflecting on her hopes, Latonya shared on the show, “I want to get married, I want to have my own child, start a family and be normal.”
