A Colombian national, Yostin Andres Mosquera, is standing trial at the Old Bailey for the alleged murders of a gay couple, Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, whose remains were discovered in both a freezer and suitcases in July 2024.
The court heard that Mosquera, 35, had previously visited the United Kingdom multiple times and had known the couple socially and intimately.
Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC stated that Mosquera and Mr. Alfonso had engaged in sexual activity, allegedly in exchange for payment, and that the couple had also traveled to visit Mosquera in Colombia. “They seemed to enjoy one another’s company,” Heer said of the trio.
However, prosecutors allege that Mosquera had ulterior motives during his visit to the couple’s west London flat in early July last year.
Digital evidence recovered from Mosquera’s computer reportedly shows that between June and July 8, he searched for the estimated value of the couple’s home, looked for a chest freezer on Facebook Marketplace, copied online banking details from Mr. Alfonso’s accounts, and browsed content related to serial killers.
On July 8, prosecutors allege that Mosquera killed both men in their Shepherd’s Bush flat. Mr. Longworth was reportedly struck multiple times in the back of the head with a hammer, while Mr. Alfonso suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso, neck, and face.
On July 10, a cyclist crossing the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol noticed Mosquera standing next to a large red suitcase, along with a silver trunk nearby. Mosquera reportedly claimed the suitcases contained car parts—an assertion prosecutors say was false.
According to the prosecution, the suitcases contained the dismembered remains of the two men, which Mosquera had allegedly transported from London. Additional remains were later discovered at the couple’s flat, stored in a chest freezer.
“The prosecution’s case is that the defendant murdered both men with premeditation and intent, and immediately attempted to steal from them,” said Ms. Heer.
Mosquera, who has been described in court as having worked as a pornographic performer, has admitted to the manslaughter of Mr. Alfonso but denies murdering either man. He is currently on trial for both murder charges.
