The Philadelphia Eagles visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs—but the spotlight briefly shifted when President Donald Trump took a swipe at pop superstar Taylor Swift during his remarks.
While congratulating the team on their dominant 40-22 win, Trump made an offhand comment about Swift, who has publicly supported the Chiefs and is in a relationship with their tight end, Travis Kelce.
“It was an incredible game. A little surprising,” Trump said. “Right from the beginning of the first quarter—I was there, I watched it in person. I was there along with Taylor Swift. How did that work out?”
The jab was met with scattered laughter, referencing the Eagles’ triumph and Swift’s visible support for the opposing team.
Trump has a history of publicly criticizing Swift. Earlier this year, he claimed on his Truth Social platform that Swift was booed during the Super Bowl, writing, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
His animosity toward the singer intensified after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race, prompting Trump to post, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Despite the dig, the Eagles’ White House celebration continued without incident. Trump praised the team’s strategy, specifically voicing support for the controversial “Tush Push” quarterback sneak, which has faced calls for removal from the NFL.
The event was notable for the absence of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who reportedly missed the event due to scheduling conflicts. Also absent was Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, who had been involved in a previous White House ceremony mishap.
