Pregnant Woman Claims She Found Dead Rat In Salad At Sydney Restaurant

A pregnant woman dining at a Japanese restaurant in Sydney says she was horrified to discover a dead rat in her salad, sparking outrage online and prompting an apology from the eatery.

The woman, identified only as “DO” in a Google review, said she was eating a katsu don set at Tatsuya West Ryde when she made the sickening discovery in her side salad.

“I’d eaten half of it at this point. Just absolutely revolting and unacceptable,” she wrote, sharing her experience in a one-star review. Photos attached to the review appeared to show the remains of a rodent mixed into the greens.

A friend dining with her also left a scathing review, writing, “My pregnant friend and I were having their lunch set today and in her small salad was a disgusting feral dead rat underneath the salad.” The friend added, “Everyone who was present stood up and left.”

Daniel Kim, who identified himself as the woman’s husband, confirmed the incident in his own review, stating: “My wife’s salad had a rat in it. Absolutely disgusting.”

Tatsuya West Ryde responded to the backlash by issuing a public apology, saying: “We sincerely apologise for this incident. The issue originated from a delivered salad box, which we are currently investigating with our supplier and local food authorities.”

The restaurant added that it was taking “all necessary steps to prevent such incidents” and thanked customers for their understanding.

In a separate statement to 9 News, the restaurant’s owner acknowledged that an incident had occurred and confirmed an internal investigation was underway. They noted, however, that “Google reviews are based on personal opinions, not verified facts.”

Despite the apology, critics slammed the restaurant for allegedly continuing service after the discovery. Food safety authorities are reportedly involved in the ongoing probe.
