Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle this weekend.

While there was hope that the King, currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, would be present, his attendance had not been confirmed by the palace.

This marks the 75-year-old monarch’s first significant public appearance since his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Charles and Camilla, with the latter having been holding the fort in her husband’s absence, are expected to join other members of the royal family for the church service.

Traditionally, the King and Queen have been accompanied by Princess Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and their children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, as well as Zara and Mike Tindall, among others. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have also attended in the past.

However, the Prince and Princess of Wales will not be in attendance this year as Kate continues her cancer treatment and recovery in private. Their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who are students at Lambrook School in Berkshire, began their school holidays last Friday, enjoying nearly a month off. Last year, Prince Louis made his Easter public debut, accompanied by his mother Kate, while George and Charlotte joined the royal family for their first public Easter outing in 2022.

It is probable that the Waleses will spend the holiday at their country residence, the ten-bedroom Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, as they usually do. If so, they will enjoy privacy, as the locals in Sandringham are accustomed to having royal neighbors and are unfazed by their presence.
